Monopol (Hüttig)

This is a very large (23 x 17 x 14 cm) unusual wooden box camera from c 1903-1906.

The early box-type camera can be loaded with a 12 plates (9x12cm plates) magazine where each plate falls down into the lower part of the camera after an exposure has been taken by the means of a simple, yet clever, mechanism, allowing the photographer to keep shooting with a fresh plate. A "clock" on top of the camera keeps the count of the number of exposures/plates taken where a needle is pointing to a number ranging between 1 and 12 on the clock. The needle changes position simultaneously as the exposed plate is "dropped".

The leather-cover of the camera is worn and there is a crack on the front (which looks uglier on the photo than in reality), but the camera has certainly been well used. The shutter still works. An unusally large and old box camera which is not often seen for sale.
